Gravel & Driveway Installation

A gravel drive that looks good in July and ruts out by January usually skipped the base. We build the base to the depth the soil calls for — deeper in clay, less in decomposed granite — then finish with a surface course that stays put under tires and rain.

What’s included

  • Sub-base depth matched to clay or decomposed granite soil
  • Crowned and sloped so winter runoff sheds instead of pooling
  • Compacted in lifts, not dumped and left loose
  • Edging set to keep gravel out of lawns and beds

How we run the job

  1. 01

    Grade the route

Existing surface stripped and shaped to the fall we want water to follow.

  2. 02

    Set the base

Base rock placed and compacted in lifts sized to the soil underneath.

  3. 03

    Surface course

Finish gravel spread to depth and compacted for a firm, walkable surface.

  4. 04

    Edge and clean

Borders set and surrounding beds or lawn cleaned of stray material.

Gravel & Driveway Installation questions

Not with the right base and crown — most washouts we get called for came from skipping the base entirely.
